Storyteller Sculpture at Rosa Parks Elementary

She sits with arms outstretched, ready to tell her story and listen to the stories of the community.  Her dress contains patterns which reflect textiles of many cultures.  She is made of bronze and ceramic tile; she is surrounded by inviting, colorful benches, illustrated with events, scenes and people related to City Heights.  She is the Storyteller.

The sculpture, designed by artist Sayoko Kay Mura, was unveiled at City Height’s Rosa Parks Elementary School on November 19, 2006.  The Storyteller was designed to celebrate the diversity, people and history of the San Diego neighborhood of City Heights, home for immigrants and refugees from around the world.

The sculpture garden, located at Chamoune Avenue and Landis Street, offers a welcoming place for the children of Rosa Parks Elementary and the community to read, talk, and play.

The Storyteller was donated to the San Diego Unified School District by Price Charities, the Price family and Los Angeles resident, Rob Goodman.
