The plaza area at Rosa Parks was filled with children enjoying games, clowns and face painting. A free book was given to each child who completed required activities - a total of 466 books were gifted! Adult volunteers, parents and community members provided read-alouds and storytelling to the students. Kathleen Krull, children's book author, attended the event. Motivating children to read is important to student achievement and creating lifelong successful readers. A special thanks to Rosa Parks Library Media Teacher, Rose Pope, and Rosa Parks Parent Room co-partners for their efforts in putting this event together. This nationally coordinated event was created by the National Education Association in Honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday. Rosa Parks' staff sold popcorn, fruit salad and popsicles to underwrite the event costs.
