Community Service Program

Purpose
To instill a greater sense of community in City Heights by encouraging residents to volunteer with local nonprofits and to take part in neighborhood projects.

Program Objectives
  • Enable busy working families to participate by creating a program that includes volunteer opportunities outside of traditional working hours.
  • Provide meaningful and quantifiable community service that makes an impact in City Heights.
Eligibility:
  • Every qualified Village Townhome resident over the age of 14 is eligible to participate, subject to rules and restrictions in applicable laws including labor laws.
  • A resident wishing to participate in the Program must complete an Application for Volunteer Services.
  • Price Charities must confirm a resident’s eligibility prior to rendering the community service in order to earn rent credits.
  • A resident wishing to participate in the Program must execute a Community Service Agreement with Price Charities which will provide all of the terms and conditions of the Program.
Overview

Residents of the Village Townhomes in City Heights may participate in the Community Service Volunteer Program. In exchange for reduced rent, the resident and qualified members of the household offer volunteer services to a qualified charitable organization or governmental agency. Participants are credited $13/hour, submit a Monthly Report detailing their service hours, and use credits as a rent rebate of up to $416 (before applicable taxes) per month on the Village Townhomes. Community service exceeding the total rent due or any “carryover” hours is not redeemable for cash value. The current qualifying organizations include City Heights Parks & Recreation, Hoover High School, Monroe Clark Middle School, Weingart City Heights Library, and La Maestra Family Clinic. Price Charities attempts to match a volunteer’s talents with the varying needs of participating organizations. While organizations profit from the positive efforts of volunteers, residents are rewarded with a financial incentive and the satisfaction of contributing valuable community service. However, the community of City Heights reaps the most benefits as a result of committed neighbors working together for a better, stronger neighborhood.
